CARA-BETH BURNSIDE

Cara-Beth Burnside, nicknamed “CB“, is credited as the most influential pioneer of women’s professional skateboarding. Born July 23 in Orange, CA, Cara-Beth first began skateboarding with her older brother and honed her skills at the legendary Big O Skatepark in Orange starting at age 10. She solidified herself as the world’s best female vert skater, holding this title for more than 3 decades from the early ‘80s – mid ’00s. She is the first woman to ever be featured on the cover of Thrasher Magazine. She also became the first woman ever to receive a pro model shoe in skateboarding (from Vans in 1997, called the CB Line) and the 2nd  woman in the world to ever receive a pro model shoe in any sport (followed by pro volleyball player, Gabrielle Reece).

Cara-Beth took a soccer scholarship at UC Davis and later returned to the world of skating to win every major title on the globe including the X Games, Vans Triple Crown, Soul Bowl, Dew Tour, All Girl Skate Jam among others. In 2004 she was awarded the Female Vert Skater of the Year award by TransWorld Skateboarding Magazine. An equally talented snowboarder, Cara-Beth competed in the first-ever Olympic Snowboard event for Team USA in Nagano, Japan in ’98 (where she placed 4th). She is the only other person in the world besides Shaun White to have won gold medals at both Summer and Winter X Games. She has won multiple gold medals in skateboard halfpipe and big air snowboarding.

Unprecedented, Cara-Beth put everything on the line to urge society for positive change. Notably the most influential advocate behind the scenes, CB co-founded the ‘Action Sports Alliance’ in 2005 which was instrumental in creating prize purse equality for men and women at X Games ESPN in 2009 across all sports. CB also helped create the popular female skateboard brand, ‘hoopla skateboards’. Hoopla arguably had one of the best female skate teams in the world for the span of a decade. Currently residing in Oceanside, CA with her rescue animals and family,  Cara-Beth is a public speaker, coaches high level skateboarders, trains her horse and maintains her passion for skateboarding and snowboarding while inspiring girl skateboarders (and the boys alike) everywhere she travels.
